Matya is Buddhist festival,howerver celebrate by Hindus as well, of Nepal which in Newari means the procession of lights.
One of the facinating features of this festival is a long parade of the enthusiatic shrine-walkers who go round all the Buddhist shrine scattered in and around the city of Patan.It must be remembered here that Patan alone has more than 1300 Buddhist shrines. This year the festival is going to be held in August 11,2006 follow by Gai Jatra, the festival of Holy Cow. The exclusivity of this festival is that the festival can be witness in Patan only. |
